About the Founder: Dr. Jacob “Jack” Roth, DVM

Dr. Jacob “Jack” Roth, DVM, was a distinguished figure in the equine industry, renowned for his multifaceted expertise as a horseman, farrier, veterinarian, and educator. His career spanned over seven decades, during which he made significant contributions to horse care and farrier education.

Dr. Roth's professional journey began in 1961 as a horseman, and by 1964, he had established himself as a professional farrier. He earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Oklahoma State University in 1977, further solidifying his commitment to equine health. In 1984, he became a licensed pari-mutuel horse trainer, showcasing his versatility within the equine sector.

One of Dr. Roth's notable distinctions was serving as one of the last official farriers in the U.S. Army, a testament to his exceptional skills in horseshoeing. His dedication to the craft led him to work with several renowned horses, including Leo P-1335, Jet Deck, and Sugar Bars. Dr. Roth placed significant emphasis on the correction of lameness, integrating his veterinary knowledge with farrier techniques to enhance equine mobility and well-being.

In 1973, Dr. Roth founded the Oklahoma Horseshoeing School in Purcell, Oklahoma. The institution became the only horseshoeing school in the United States established and operated by a veterinarian. Under his leadership, the school attracted students globally, offering hands-on training that emphasized live shoeing to prepare graduates for real-world scenarios.

Beyond education, Dr. Roth was an innovator and entrepreneur. He founded MFC Tools and Purcell Farrier Supply, providing quality tools and resources to farriers worldwide. His contributions to the field were recognized in 2006 when he was inducted into the International Equine Veterinarian Hall of Fame. Additionally, in 2020, he was honored by the Brotherhood of Working Farriers Association (BWFA) Hall of Fame for his lifelong dedication to farrier education and excellence.

Dr. Roth's legacy is characterized by his unwavering commitment to the equine industry, his innovative approach to farrier education, and his passion for improving horse health through integrated veterinary and farrier practices. His influence continues to inspire and guide professionals within the field.

The owner/CEO of the Oklahoma Horseshoeing School is Dr. Jack Roth. Dr. Roth founded the Oklahoma Horseshoeing School. Jack has been a professional horseman since 1961, a professional farrier since 1964, a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine since 1977, and a licensed pari-mutual trainer since 1984. As a Certified Master Farrier, he has the distinction of being known as the Army’s last blacksmith. Dr. Roth has been attending farrier to such horses as Leo P-1335, Jet Deck and Sugar Bars. Great emphasis has been placed on correction of lameness in both his horseshoeing and veterinary careers.

We have both AFA Certified Farriers and BWFA Certified Journeyman II Farriers as instructors.
